It has been a sad week at Nittardi. Being 95 Virgilio just renewed his driving license so that he could drive around in his little 4×4 searching for mushrooms and taking care of his vegetable garden close to Nittardi every day. We will miss listing to your stories about how you planted the original “Vigna Doghessa” that you always called “La Maremma” in the sixties, on how you built the road to Nittardi in the early 70, and many more going back to well before the war. Your memory never stopped surprising us. Thank you for being a teacher to all of us at Nittardi with your calm and laborious style by being so authentic and pride of your land.
E’ stata una settimana triste a Nittardi. Avendo quasi 95 anni Virgilio aveva appena rinnovato la sua patente per poter andare in giro nel suo piccolo 4×4 alla ricerca di funghi e prendersi cura del suo orto vicino a Nittardi ogni giorno. Ci mancheranno le tue storie su come hai piantato l’originale “Vigna Doghessa” che hai sempre chiamato “La Maremma” negli anni Sessanta oppure su come hai costruito la strada che porta a Nittardi nei primi anni 70 e molte altre ancora che vanno indietro fino a ben prima della guerra. La tua memoria non ha mai smesso di sorprenderci. Grazie per essere stato un maestro per tutti noi a Nittardi con il tuo stile calmo e laborioso, per essere così autentico e fiero della tua terra.
